Only for people who don't know the difference, or are hooked on a brand for image's sake. Buying into heritage is one thing - but don't expect heritage alone to carry you through a corner faster. Buy the best because of what it is and what it can be, not just because the name says so.
(disclaimer: that will probably piss a few people off, but I'm against being a marque snob)

Yah your 100% if your talking about buying the car for name. But my point is your buying the car for SPEED so lets reverse your statement:
Porsche and BMW < Nissan [GT R] So the guy that wasted hrs and hrs on that 'essay' is way off.

pretty sure the same argument could've been made about the NSX back in the day.
people still bought 'em.

"I believe that Nissan is making a potentially serious error in importing the new GT-R to the United States and Canada" This is like saying Chevy or Ford will made a serious error if they buid cars people want to buy. LOL LOL LOL at this goof.

I took away from the article that he thinks the GTR is a great car, but it is bad for Nissan because it will not help them sell more cars. People won't want a 350z because its not a GTR at all and the typical crowd of people who want to spend this much money on a performance car are not going to leave the staples provided by Chevrolet and Porsche. The GTR is a great car, but it does not help Nissan in the long run. I completely agree with this statement. If you look at the NSX, they did sell okay, but it did not help Honda sell more Acuras. What helped Honda was people wanting an upscale Honda, not a supercar, which is why we don't see sales of 30k NSXs per year like we do for Porsche 911s and Corvettes. Both of these cars bring people into dealerships, NSXs not so much. I expect the same with the GTR, unless you count young men with no real income coming in to look. Too bad for Nissan that there are not NINJA car loans. I really think Nissan could have taken a page from Chevrolet here and looked at the F-body/Corvette duo. People who couldn't afford a Corvette still wanted a F-body because it still had a LSx. The 350z and GTR are worlds apart and this is going to hurt them in the long run. Honestly, I doubt another GTR will make it to the US because of demand. We demand Corvettes and 911s when we have a midlife crisis, not GTRs. Its a great car, but I have zero desire to even sit in one. I will stay with dreams of the two staples when I have my midlife crisis.

He spelled it "Pious" for a reason.
Crack out the dictionary (the English one) if you're still having trouble getting the joke. ...do it now or I will "spak the shit" out of you at the track in my rx7. ![]()

Also, if Nissan was really counting on the "auto enthusiasts" to move the GT-R off the lots, the twin-clutch automatic transmission was a mistake.
