GT-R vs. Z06 - drag race

Just to add more fuel to the GT-R vs. C6 fire....

( NEW) GTR R35 VS C6 Z06 - first street race. - Video

Video comes from Oman... 60kph, 80kph, and 180kph.

Not quite the results that you'd expect considering all the magazine reviews.

If this is how the Z06 stacks up in a straight-line drag... how would the ZR-1 do?

the gtr still launches harder, has more traction and will probably still do a better 1/4, not to mention turn circles around the z06....

if your being an idoit on the street then yes, the z06 will probably win eventually when you are well beyond 3 digit speeds, not to mention that the temp of 82 (which is probably higher) hurts the gtr much more than the na z06.

the gtr is the better car

wish that was taken in the day time.

Im not a GT-R nutswinger but that car is def. not a straight-liner. It's a neck snapping, turn whore. Z06/GT-R is a decent matchup. ZR-1/GT-R will be criminal.

I suppose I like both cars but they really don't excite me that much.

Well that's what the video DOESN'T show.

It launches harder, has more traction, and the Z06 still starts to walk by the time it hits 2nd.

1/4 in a Z06 comes through at the top of 3rd.

Heh... and apparently, using the launch control on the GT-R voids the factory warranty, as per the owners manual of US-spec cars! LOL.

they say turning VDC off is a warrenty void. So entering launchcontrol turns that off?

also, they stating 'racing' voids warrenty.

How about the slightest bit of clarification as to what 'racing' includes.

From the Top-Gear segment, they touted that the GPS recognized when the car got to a racetrack and automatically turned off the mandated Japanise speed limiter. I guess that is not the case in the states?

I would not call a HPDE event 'racing', do they. How about a 0-60 dash from a stoplight? They will need to clarify that to get it to stick...

further in the thread this came from, clarification from NIssan warrenty in UK;

cliffnote; you can get thewarrenty reset, after a track day by getting 'race service' at a dealer.

VDC off voids the warranty.. - Page 5 - GT-R Register - Official Nissan Skyline and GTR Owners Club forum
So this is the mail contents I have back from Nissan

Please see our current policy detail regarding your VDC (ESP) issue below. Please note however, this is still work in progress.

Tuning:
Malfunctions caused by operation performed at workshop other than NHPC or mount of parts other than Nissan genuine will not be covered by warranty.

Driving condition:
Malfunctions caused by severe driving (eg. driving at circuit) will not be covered by warranty.
Verification of travel distance with Vehicle Status Data Recorder (VSDR) and history of parts replacement may be conducted.

Special driving condition:
Launch mode needs to be set VDC off. When the customer set VDC off, then warranty is not covered as described in the Owner Manual (OM).
Customer should be checked and maintained in NHPC before and after driving racetrack to follow special racing service intervals in OM.
System failure on the vehicle during race driving on a circuit is non-warrantable. System failure on the vehicle during city driving related to having driven the vehicle on a race circuit is non-warrantable.

NB: Specific warranty booklet will be supplied to all RBUs for translation and distribution to local network

My understanding is that essentially, any car driven on track is out of warranty until re-checked by a certified NHPC which effectively re-sets the warranty.

Effectively, any time VDC OFF is engaged, the car is out of warranty while VDC OFF is engaged.

Make of it what you will

I'd take a Z06 or certainly a ZR-1 over a GTR hands down. It takes someone with skill to do fast laps in the Vette and the GTR is so over engineered, it practically drives for you!

Are you implying that the 'R' in 'GT-R' stands for "Russia?"
