TORQUE and that sometimes they fall into the hands of someone's rich wife, who has zero driving skill and crashes them (actually lindsey lohan comes to mind when I think of rich woman crashing SL65s).

There are a ton of cars out there that you can kill yourself in with drivers much more willing to do so... EVOs, STis, Mustangs, Corvettes, etc.,etc... this can't be the reason. The 65 is a very rare car in the SL lineup, with the 500 being by FAR the most common, and from what I understand the entire SL line is expensive. Most people driving an SL500/550 is some 60 year old guy who's idea of danger is using an 8 iron on what is obviously a 9 iron chip.

true...but those cars' base cost is a lot cheaper too. it's a lot cheaper to replace a sti and mustang than a merc SL. you'd have to have 4 idiot kids crashing their Evos to equal 1 idiot wife crashing the SL...granted, 4 idiot kids may die vs. only 1 dyke wife...but then again, how often do accidents end up in hospitals?

Maybe thats why its expensive to insure. Limited parts can cost a lot...

What is the Gap between the SL65 & your E55?

My Insurance for my E55 is cheaper than my Audi B6S4 was (about $250/yr), but still cannot figure that out...not that I am complaining! We also have USAA Insurance, which if you are not familar is insurance for ex and currrent military personal and their families...I cannot say enough good things about this insurance. If you qualify, I would strongly suggest looking into it.

So why isn't the S-Class on there... it has an S63 and S65? What about the CL? Same deal? I assure the SL is an incredibly safe car and honestly I cannot think people crash it more than other cars...

Refer to reference above... CL-Class, Bentley Continental GT, Gallardo, etc all just as "rare" and "expensive" to fix...

E55 cost to insure is half of what it is for the SL. $250/yr is a joke. SL costs almost that much a month. I have a perfect driving record too. Part of it, I'm sure, is because I'm with State Farm.
