They'll pay to fix your wheel. There's a form online to put in a claim.

I'm in the middle of a claim now. I'll let you know how it goes.

When you DO make the claim though, I suggest you also supply a letter from your ins co that states you did NOT make a claim through them. They'll ask for it anyway so to not slow down the process, go ahead and do that ahead of time.

Also, I recommend taking pictures of the spot where the damage occured and include those as well as pics of the damage taken. I've seen too many times where I'd nail a pothole, then find it patched not two days later. I'd have to imagine that city politics would suggest that it would never fly trying to make a claim after the fact.

And send it certified.

I'm suprised your tire survived that. Must be a really soft wheel.

BUMMER!! Last Winter my friend hit a huge hole on Ashland and ruined 2 rims and 2 tires. There was a gas station right there and he pulled into the station. While he was talking to the shop manager 3 other vehicles pulled in right behind him, all who had hit the same hole and bent their rims. Long story short, they all collectively filed a a police report and tried to get money from the city. It has been almost 1 year now and my friend has never received one thin dime! I hope your case works out better than his.
