General Exclaim tires

Anyone have any experience with General Exclaim UHP tires? Looking to replace the stock Conti's on the coupe with something before spring. The Exclaim UHP seem to get pretty good reviews at a great price. The most negative reviews from Bimmer owners were still in the 7's for satisfaction with the only real complaint seeming to be a bit of a soft sidewall. However, there are plenty of other reviews that say the corning is great (including from E36 and some E46 M3's). Just thought I'd see if anyone here has any experience with them.

A soft sidewall will give you a better ride, a harder one will give you better handling and more responsiveness at the sacrifice of a little ride comfort. I always have heard good stuff about General. It should be a good daily driving summer tire for the price. If you want something that sticks better you're going to have to pay more. What are you going to be using your car for? Just daily driving? Autocross? Weekend fun?

The coupe will be a DD for spring, summer, and fall but its also my fun car. I'll get on it when I can especially nice curvy roads and on/off ramps. It may see an auto-x at some point, too. To be honest, I don't know how true the claim is for a soft sidewall as only the people that gave the tire a lower rating mentioned it. Everyone else said it was great in the corners and I wouldn't assume they'd say that if they were getting much flex. Plus, I've probably seen sidewall complaints for almost every tire I've looked at reviews on. Hence me seeing if anyone here has ever run them on their car.

My default choice are PS' as I think they're great tires but I don't think they warrant the price (nor any other tire in that range). Stepping down a bit leaves me with F1's but although I'd like to try them I still find myself apprehensive. The other choice in that $800 price range is KDW2's and I don't think they're worth the money (I've had them before).

Have you thought about Hankook RS2 Z212's or Falken Azenis 615's? These are both very high performance tires for reasonable prices. Tire rack does not carry them though.

Also, Toyo T1-R comes in many sizes. They are relatively high performance and comfortable.

take the user reviews on tirerack w/ a grain of salt. it really depends on their driving experience which often isn't listed.

Very true, most people are upgrading from their factory tires which on a good amount of cars are crap. On the other hand I love tire rack's tire tests: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...irePageLocQty= click on Test Result charts for more info.

If you don't mind paying a little more I would go with Jay's advice, they'll be stickier and more responsive, great for autox. They do wear quicker though and the sidewalls are harder but I think it's worth for the better handling.

My older Azenis (rt215 I think?) are great in the summer, but turn to plastic and are horrible in the winter. In the right conditions, they give a ton of grip for the money though.

Buying winter tires again?

Just seeing what's out there. I know there's better than the stock Conti's.

All summer tires are like that. Summers in the summer and winter tires in the winter ftw.

I've had them for 3 summers worth on my 19's. So far so good. Although, I'm starting to hear some slight road noise.

How is sidewall flex with them? That seemed to be the only negative review I saw on them. Price-wise, they're great!
