225/275?
is the 225/275 setup going to cause me problems?
if it is goin to cause problems, could i move the 255's to the front? ill be using the stock rims and pontenza tires im new to messing around with tires so any explanation would help, thanks in advance.

I like to try to balance out some of the "safe" understeer inherent in BMW's by evening out the tire widths. I try to maximize tread width while keeping the front and rear widths as close as possible. In my case, I end up with 245's front and rear. I'm not familiar with e92 stock widths, but you might have good luck going with 255's all around or a 245 or 255 front / 265 rear setup.
225 sounds pretty narrow - especially with 275 rears. I think I would only go with that size on a 7.5" wheel. But if you're going for the staggered look... I'm of no help ![]() |

I will contend that you don't need to be a track guy to appreciate the benefits of reduced understeer. |

More tire width doesn't necessarily give you more gription. You car's contact patch for a give corner is the corner weight / tire pressure (plus some factors dealing with the sidewall). So, by putting a wider tire on your carical you are just reshaping the contact patch. Assuming your car's suspension can use the tire efficiently, this may mean a tire will last longer because it comes in contact with the road less often and may operate at a lower temperature ( your BMW's short suspension links cannot, too much camber change = "Damn up passenger space!!!"), but will not give you more traction.
You can also run a lower tire pressure for a given tire, which makes it more compliant over road irregularities. It may make the tire forgiving, as it is easier for the tire to conform to the road under changing conditions. However, apparently longer contact patches are more forgiving when you ask the tire for too much while cornering. If you want, supposed this thingie can do the maths for you if you're curious: http://www.ftire.com/ I'm no engineer, but I can look shit up on the internet. The people in this tread have fancy titles and exeriences. Go for the narrower tires Peace out Jon (who went from 245's to 275's)
