Cheapest/Best Place to Fix Tires

My friend is looking for a shop that will provide "best bang for the buck" service. One of his tires has a nail stuck in it and is slowly deflating. Goodyear quoted him $45 to patch it up.

Anyone know any other reputable places?

Any disount tire, ntb, or firestone will be able to do a patch job for ~20 bucks.

Just about any service station should be able to put in a plug. Not great but it works and it's usually well under $20

I might get flamed for this, but plugging a tire is super easy with 2 plugging tools, the gooey self adhesive plugs, a pair of pliers to pull the nail, a razor blade to cut the excess plug, and some windex to check for proper seal. I must have plugged 5-6 tires over the past 3-4yrs (lots of roof & siding in my neighborhood past 4yrs) and none of them ever leaked afterwards. It's a 5-10min job, and most of the time you don't even need to jack up the car.

You got a point... It is by the sidewall. So its doable. I'll stop by autozone when i get some fere time.

It's "by the sidewall"? Plugs may not be a good idea if it's real close to the sidewall...needs to be well into the tread, say at least 1" from edge.

If you do pick up the plug tools from Autozone, be sure to get the "T handled" tools, not the straight screwdriver ones which don't provide enough grip.

at my work, we will not plug a tire that has a nail pretty close to the sidewall on a customer's car but we will do it on our own cars.

My E34 rocked a monkey goop (I think that's what it's called) plugged tire for 5k miles. It took Mike and I about 2 minutes to do the job. The thing lasted through plenty of road trips and was still plugging the tire when I sold the car. I'm pretty sure we bought the monkey goop kit at Pepboys FYI.

One of my Goodyear F1 GSD3's got a roofing nail thru it within a few months of being installed in 06. It's lasted ~20k miles including an HPDE at Autobahn's full course, and AMS's dynojet drum, and shows no signs of losing air any different than the other 3. Same goes for my Yoko Avid TRZ's on my Odyssey...no leaks after ~12k miles.

As long as it's a regular small nail hole, not a tear, and not in the sidewall, the gooey plugs hold up quite well.

i just went to a goodyear. the tire is not fixable. they can patch it up but they would be liable since theres a high risk of the tire exploding. sucks!

you drive a 2002 M3, i don't get why you would want to be patching tires up on a car like that anyway..... go on craigslist, i'm sure you can find a nice used tire for 50$.
